What causes the Xbox One X HDMI IC fault?

The most common reason we hear is that the Xbox One has been dropped or knocked while plugged in. This causes the HDMI cable to yank out and can short the connectors on the port. This can send a spike of current through the motherboard to the HDMI IC chip and damage it.

Unplugging the HDMI cable while the Xbox One X is still powered on/in standby can also cause this to happen.

How do we repair the Xbox One X HDMI port?

To repair this fault we need to carefully strip the console down to the motherboard. From there we check the HDMI port first to make sure it is not damaged as that could be the fault. If we determine the port is ok, we test the HDMI IC chip with a multimeter and diagnose the HDMI circuitry.

The chip is attached by a series of solder connections. We have to carefully remove the old Xbox One X HDMI IC, prepare the solder pads for the new chip, and solder a new IC. We then test the board to make sure the circuit is working and reassemble.

The Xbox then goes down to our test bench where all functions are tested prior to packing the device ready to come back to you.
