What causes the Xbox Series S loud fan/overheating fault?
The fan in the console works off the temperature of the motherboard. If the motherboard is getting too hot, the fans will rev up to keep the Xbox Series S cool. Sometimes a build up of dust, or thermal paste drying up can contribute to higher temperatures in the Xbox Series S.
Now the consoles are starting to come out of warranty, we are seeing more and more Series S consoles with this issue. The thermal paste has dried up on most of them. We use a top of the range thermal paste which will last for years.
This repair option includes us opening the console and fully servicing it. Removing all dust and applying new thermal paste. This can help the system to run cool. However, overheating can be an early sign of a Xbox Series S developing APU issues. So if you notice the console running hotter, it is important to get it serviced right away to stop things getting worse.
