What causes the Xbox 360 E Super Slim drive mechanism fault?
The main reason we see Xbox 360 consoles with drive faults coming in are caused by accidental damage. As the disc drawer opens out, anything passing can knock it and dislodge it. We often here that pets and young children are to blame.
Dust can also cause problems with the Xbox drive stopping it from opening. The internal mechanics can often get clogged up with dust and hair and a full service is needed. Any parts that have worn, like the motor belt or worm gear, may also become stiff causing problems with the laser movement and drive tray sticking.
One last reason is general wear and tear. Many of the Xbox 360 disc drive's internal components are made of plastic so can become worn. Motors that move the disc can wear out and the bearings can go causing the motors to become stiff.
How do we repair the Xbox 360 E Super Slim Drive Fault?
The first thing we do before any repair is test the console to confirm the fault. We clean out any dust as we go. We then proceed to open the Xbox 360 E Super Slim and gain access to the disc drive.
