What causes the iPad Pro charging port fault?
The lightning dock connector or charging port as it can be known on the iPad Pro can become damaged whilst plugging in the USB cable. If the plug is damaged, it can bend the pins in the iPad Mini dock connector. Also if the iPad is yanked while is it plugged in, it can damage the connecting pins too.
If the port looks ok, but the device still doesn't charge, it could be something more serious with the logic board and in some cases may not be repairable.
How do we repair the iPad Pro dock connector?
The first thing we do before any repair is test the iPad to confirm the fault. We will then carefully remove the iPad screen. If there is a small crack in the screen it will need to be replaced as we will make it worse by opening the iPad. This is unavoidable as the only way to gain access is by taking the screen off so will be an additional cost.
The charging port of the iPad Pro is soldered to the logic board so we need to carefully remove the old port and resolder the new port back down. It is quite a tricky process but we have the expertise to complete this repair.
Once we have swapped the faulty charging port with a new one we test that it is working. We will then seal the iPad back up and take it to our testing bench where all functions are tested prior to dispatch.
