What causes the 3DS and 3DS XL Cracked Hinge or Case Replacement?
The most common problem that we see is wear and tear. The repeated opening and closing of the case can cause the plastic to crack around the hinge. Also an impact can cause the hinge to break away.
Sometimes the whole top half breaks away from the bottom. If this happens, the cables for the LCD, camera flex cable, WiFi antenna and speaker flex cable can become broken in the process. This would normally mean a repair isn't economically viable so please check before booking the 3DS or 3DS XL for repair.
How do we repair the 3DS and 3DS XL case or hinge?
The first thing we do before any repair is test the 3DS or 3DS XL to confirm the fault. In this case, a visual inspection is probably all that is needed but we will also check other functions before proceeding with the repair.
The whole console has to be stripped down and transplanted into the new case so it is quite a long process to complete.
Once the case swap is complete, we will test the console to make sure all functions are working. The 3DS or 3DS XL then goes to our testing bench where we test all repairs prior to dispatch
